Most people are unaware that import taxes and VAT are added to the price when ordering goods from outside the European Union. You have to be ready to fill out very complicated customs declarations and pay hundreds of euros of taxes. In addition, usually shipping costs are not included in the price of goods and that can add another dozens of euros. As a result, the initial cheap price can turn into quite an expensive one.

Each order consists of several components:

• Ear impressions

It is usually necessary to take ear impressions when ordering custom in-ear monitors or musician earplugs. Taking ear impressions and scanning them costs 39€. Physical ear impressions are digitalized through 3D scanning. The files are then archived for up to 2 years. As the shape of ears can change a bit over time, we recommend taking new impressions after two years to ensure the highest quality, best isolation and fit. If less than two years have passed since the last impressions were taken and we already have your impressions in our archive, then it is not necessary to take new ones.

• Shipping

We use the trustworthy services of UPS Worldwide Express to ship your monitors. This ensures their fast and safe arrival to the destination. Shipping costs to Estonia are 59€ per in-ear monitor order (except cables, cases, devices, earplugs and other accessories) and is not dependent on the order size. Usually it takes about 15 days for the monitors to arrive. The shipping time and cost may differ depending on your location. Please contact us for a personalised offer.

An ambient port is basically a small filtered hole in the shell of the in-ear monitor that allows external sounds to reach the eardrum directly in addition to your in-ear mix. A regular Ultimate Ears in-ear monitor offers a -26dB noise reduction. With ambient ports, the noise reduction is about half of that or about -12dB.

If you want to hear more stage noise and crowd noise, then just leave the ambient ports open. If this is not the case, you can use Ambient Plugs to close off the ambient ports and your in-ear monitors will work as regular.

It is necessary to note that if air is allowed to move freely through the ambient port to your eardrum, a portion of low frequencies produced by the in-ear monitor are lost and the sound is thinner. It is also necessary to acknowledge that stage noise can sometimes be very loud and you could damage your hearing when there is too much noise entering your ears. In loud environments it is always recommended to use maximum isolation, which in case of Ultimate Ears is -26dB (without ambient ports).

Who are ambient ports meant for?

Some musicians have never used in-ear monitors before and they cannot get used to them while feeling cut off from the environment. Therefore, some insist on using the ambient feature in order to make the transition from standard wedge monitors to in-ear monitors smoother. Fortunately, these cases are extremely rare and with a proper in-ear monitor mix, you should never feel cut off from the environment. Also, if you get used to the in-ear monitors, it is possible to close off the ambient ports temporarily with ambient plugs or seal them off permanently at your UE dealer.

A general misconception is that the ambient ports give a wider and more lively sound. Actually, the ambient noise can make your sound muddy and you lose a lot of low frequencies in your mix. With a proper in-ear mix, there is no need for this extra ambience.
